"As It Should Be" by A Beautiful Curse (Electronic Artist from Texas(TX))

A Beautiful Curse's latest album is "As It Should Be." This album, for the most part, contains lower tempo Electronic music; which at times is quite psychedelic and is aimed at almost being "positive dream music" for the listener. The opener, "On the Other Side," starts off with beautiful female vocals over an almost gritty and menacing background rumble before a trip-hop like beat comes in to take over the song. "A Mind of Its Own" is a more fantasy-like song in which a steady beat is held down with ambient sounds and vocals fading in and out from all directions. The song, "This Is My House," is an all out Electronica track with a dancing and pulsating beat that will make you want to stand up and groove. This album is an amalgam of contemporary psychedelic styles which all come from a place of positive inspiration. If you appreciate slightly hallucinatory electronic sounds, or like any type of dream-like music, then you might agree this album is exactly "As It Should Be."

RadioIndy is pleased to present Refracture with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Left For Dead Ep "

RadioIndy is pleased to present Refracture with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Left For Dead Ep "

House music is a mystifyingly multitude of Electronica / Dance music with numerous degrees of specialization and nuances. Beats Per Minute (BPM), textural definition and use / non-use of vocals are but a few of the defining characteristics that divide such subgenres of House as Dirty House, French House, and Electro House. Refracture's 3-song CD EP, "Left for Dead," blends elements of different subgenres - most notably Electro House - meaning, the music has the requisite BPM's, is anchored by propulsive bass lines, and features the sonic balance / blend associated with the House styles. All 3 tracks are catchy, infectious, and danceable as all get-out (i.e., very danceable indeed!). The title track, "Left for Dead" kicks things off with a slow-build synth swirl that hesitates before exploding into an irresistible groove punctuated by sonic squeaks and squalls that drop out of nowhere, keeping the mix continuously fresh. "Space Riot" and "Energy Flow" are both more immediate and insistent, but no less engaging, and each makes a case for being the best of the 3 mixes on the CD. If you're a House music connoisseur you will make up your own mind about the House attributes and qualifications of Refracture's "Left for Dead" EP, but if you're an Electronica music fan I think you'll find this CD delivers where it counts: on the dance floor.

"Equilibrio Sbilanciato" by Syntithenai (Electronic Artist from Italy)

Listen up to the intriguing experimental electronic sounds of "Equilibrio Sbilanciato" by the quite fascinating composer Syntithenai. These inventive arrangements stimulate an air of artistic visions of well produced sounds blended with moving, percussive beats. With an ambiance of industrial tonality, "Deceiving Train" is enhanced with brilliant and soothing synth sounds that bond with the rhythmic percussion. The title track, "Equilibrio Sbilanciato" could easily be heard at a club as there is a soft and gentle arpeggio and subtle synth string swells. Space like and mysterious, "Uomo2009" is imaginative with industrial pulses and sound textures. Syntithenai has compiled a terrific set of compositions that is orchestrated with precise precision. "Sythetic Heart" by X-Sonic (Electronic Artist from Tennessee(TN))

"Synthetic Heart" by X-Sonic is refreshing wave of 80's synthpop meets modern day electronica. The production of each track is progressive and provides solid and extremely danceable beats. The melodies coupled with the lyrics keep the listener in a kaleidoscope of romance, escape, and a night out all at once. This CD is definitely one that has the potential of being pumped in downtown nightclubs to get everyone out on the dancefloor. "Crazy Over You", the opening track really sets the tone of creativity and originality with a familiarity and a classic feel that can be heard throughout this record. Toward the end, "Fade to Blue" cools it down with a smooth ballad sound while still keeping the synthetic effects strong. Older fans of Dead or Alive as well as younger fans of Justice can thoroughly enjoy this up and coming band out of Tennessee.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Ari Inkiläinen with a GrIndie Award for the CD "The Shine (Lumi&Stars mix)"

Ari Inkiläinen and his latest release, "The Shine (Lumi&Stars mix)," will bring listeners of the electronica scene to their feet. As a composer, Inkilainen has a talent for finding the right sounds and rhythms tailored for the club scene. Using sounds that are driven from synths and drum machines is no easy task, as the composer must play each track with precise timing and control to create the final song. You can hear the multi-layering Inkiläinen has embedded within this song with different types of synth string effects, while the drums keep a steady and solid beat. There is also a dynamic balance between the sounds as each string effect stands out as it takes the solo. The melody is catchy as it loops around with sounds that are vibrant and lively. Fans of Moby or Vangelis will thoroughly enjoy Ari Inkiläinen's "The Shine (Lumi&Stars mix)" with its club scene sounds and grooving beats.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Thomas Donovan with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Xtended.dance"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Thomas Donovan with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Xtended.dance"

Thomas Donovan's latest CD, "Xtended.dance," furthers the prolific Electronica artist's exploration of synth-pop dance music. On this 8-song offering, only the lead track (and single) "Pump Up the Love" is entirely new, as the rest of the disc is comprised of remixes of club favorites, "Colour," Calling Around the World," "Trapped," and "Total Controller." "Pump Up the Love," though, like "Trapped" or "Colour," evokes as well the hook-centric quality of UK-style Top 40 pop to fine effect. "Total Controller," in fact, offers up a rousing sing-along chorus not unlike The Killers' "Somebody Told Me." Throughout "Xtended.dance," Donovan demonstrates an uncanny knack for affecting the perfect vocal touch as his supple and emotive voice bends, swoops, and glides over synth-drenched Electronica that makes this CD as Top 40-worthy as it is danceable.

Kem describes herself as a "multi-media artist" who utilizes high-tech compositional collaging as her instrument and formula for channeling creativity. The music is complex in its individual and collective layering yet the elements mesh, creating a futuristic sound that gels. "Sand in my Head" includes an almost droning tone, created by a digital wind instrument that exudes an enticing and mysterious ambiance. "Chasing Wormholes" is a perfect title for the final song as resonating synths fall into rubble and re-emerge reborn. The album carries its own inertia and remains engaging through the end. "Chansons" by VX-323 (Electronica Artist from Oregon(OR))

This is one CD review where I will not have to worry about hurting the singer's feelings. No, it's not that The VX-323 is heartless – well, strike that. The VX-323 is, in fact, heartless: he / she – it, is a robot. That's right. The VX-323 is a "voice synthesis android," programmed to provide vocals for the 9 tracks of electronica / Euro-pop that comprises the fascinating album, "Chansons." Its back story is reason enough to check out The VX-323, but beyond that is the fact that the music, encompassing classic electronica grooves & effects inspired by the likes of Kraftwerk & Depeche Mode, andcountless dance-oriented works of the '80's, so perfectly fits the theme of a robot and its role in a human-centric world. Employing different "voices" (an English-accented yuppie on "Billion Dollar Condo;" a Barry White-like narrator trading off with an Eddie Murphy-in-white-voice clone on "Hey Baby;" a disembodied PA announcer on "Commuter Flight," etc.), The VX-323 "sings" songs about work, humans and technology from the non-human perspective. Funny, clever, thought-provoking, and musically satisfying as a collection of Euro-infused synth-pop songs, The VX-323's debut CD, "Chansons," must be heard to be believed.

"Bondi Blue (Music from the Underwater Bondi Experience" by John Simmons (Electronic Artist from Australia)

The terms lush, orchestral, mysterious, soothing & atmospheric all come to mind when referring to John Simmons' new CD, "Bondi Blue (Music from the Underwater Bondi Experience)," a thematic, New Age-like album built on overlaid synthesizers and electronica-framed soundscapes. All 11 instrumental tracks of "Bondi Blue" are titled to reflect the deep sea experience (the music was composed specifically for the Underwater Bondi Experience in Australia), and Simmons is more than up to the task of fitting music to the images his song titles evoke. CD-opener, "Into the Surf," with its lush, melodic sweep, suggests the ambience of a windswept ocean at dawn; "Deep Rocky Reef," more jagged & imposing, hints at the dangers that lurk in unfathomable depths; "Blueness" explores limitless shallows & its intrinsic natural beauty; and "Underwater," with its orchestral strains of epic proportion, calls forth the sea's mystery and its inscrutable wonder. For fans of instrumental, chill out and New Age music, John Simmons' CD, "Bondi Blue (Music from the Underwater Bondi Experience)" is as timeless as the sea it celebrates.

"As the White Crane Flies" by 12000 Miles (Electronic Artist from The United Kingdom)

"As the White Crane Flies" by 12000 Miles (UK/NZ electronica artist collaboration) Intriguing the listener with experimental Electronica, 12000 Miles releases their debut album, titled "As the White Crane Flies." The musical pair began this collaboration, as their group name suggests, miles apart sharing their works of MIDI files through the internet. The end result is an outstanding and brilliant collection of free forming works utilizing the highly talented forte of Lain Dixon Iain as flute player. Opening up the disc is "Alphabet Hunt (from A)," which delivers a driving industrial tonality, while the smooth and interesting flute surprises the listener with instrumental interplay. Strong and powerful synth hits and generous percussive beats bring together the absorbing energy "Endangered Species" offers up. "V Formation" shows a slightly softer side of the album, with the flute being soothing and melodic with a light and airy quality. If you like multi-layered experimental music with first-rate production that is flavored with the dynamics of the flute, then 12000 Miles's "As the White Crane Flies" will be one album you will thoroughly enjoy.

"In the Garden" by PJ22 (Electronic Artist from Switzerland)

PJ22's new CD, "In the Garden," a 1-man-at-the-keyboards exploration of instrumental Electronica, finds the Breakbeat / Breaks veteran and former punk musician, expertly blazing a trail of propulsive and pulsating dance / techno music every bit as danceable as it is catchy. The 11 track CD, at times reminiscent of The Chemical Brothers or The Crystal Method, trips between ambient canvasses on "The Old State," riveting techno "Another Day," and sinister, Gothic like soundscapes "Dark Side" with equal skill, leaving behind a positively breathless blend of Electro music that explodes with sure and steady indulgence. Elsewhere recalling such club stalwarts as Daft Punk or Orbital, PJ22's command of melody and rhythm lend an urgency that pays off big-time on "Breacking Glass" and the title song, "In the Garden." As ready for the dance floor or providing a soundtrack to a night of introspective reflection, PJ22's compelling and seamless Techno and Electronica CD, "In the Garden," will inspire the feet as well as the ears.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Didge Extreme / David Blonski with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Into the Night - Music for the Road "

Didge Extreme / David Blonski, talented composer and recording artist, serves up another terrific album titled "Into the Night - Music for the Road," comprised of energetic grooves of electronica and fusion dance music. Blonski's use of the didgeridoo is not only amazingly creative, but the way he incorporates the unique sound of this instrument with synthesized sounds is incredible. The first track, "Twilight Begins," launches off this disc with vigorous beats and the haunting tones of the drone-like didgeridoo with a mysterious charm. Exotic flutes on "Cruise Control" are rich in flavor and reverberate with an ambiance that is lively and full of life. You will sense the Middle Eastern tonality of the percussive drums on "Desert Crossroads" as it takes listeners to what seems like an oasis in a hot desert. "Alien Highway" and "Area 51" are titles that describe exactly what these songs would bring to mind: supernatural and mysterious sound effects. Take a listen to Didge Extreme / David Blonski's album "Into the Night-Music for the Road," and you will journey through sounds of worldwide instruments with vibes that are invigorating and sure to please.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Warped Angel with a GrIndie Award for the CD "I Wanna Dream"

From the city that brought us Wayne Newton and The Killers, Las Vegas' own Warped Angel are back with their newest disc "I Wanna Dream." The band is comprised of singer/songwriter Lisa Chambliss and musician/songwriter Chris Chimo. Together, they have created an album filled with industrial and electro angst. Don't take that last sentence lightly, Chambliss' voice is chocked full of emotion and drive. "We use the power of emotion to write the lyrics and compose the music," says Chambliss and that can easily be heard on the title track "I Wanna Dream." There are also some hints of Nine Inch Nails hardcore tones scattered about this disc. Just listen to songs like "Distance" and "My War" as they ooze that NIN sound. If you are into that Euro/Industrial rock sound, than Warped Angel is a safe bet.

"Mosaic" by SpiceHouse (Rock Artist from New York(NY))

SpiceHouse's latest album, "Mosaic," a 20 song 2-CD set of multi-textured tunes ranging from folk-like rock to jazz to trip hop to ethereal soundscapes is, nevertheless, as accessible and tuneful as it is unique. Like similarly adventurous, genre-bending performers (if not as expansive), Over the Rhine or Shivaree, female lead singer, C.R. Keyser-Posner teams with Rick Eppedio on this sonic check-off of contemporary sounds with often riveting results. The CD opener, "Ties That Bind," grips with an understated melody – not unlike one of Annie Lennox's smarter tunes, and is followed by the freakbeat like "Surreal No. 9" (which, on Disc 2, is given a more exploratory, "extended jam" treatment - as are a couple other tracks); "Bleecker Street" has an unhurried and engaging straight-up jazz vibe, while title song, "Mosaic" uses world rhythms to build tension to a chorus release that's both tempered and sublime. Versatile and evocative as its title suggests, SpiceHouse's "Mosaic" CD is a well-conceived and equally well-delivered, mix of pop and electronic styles that's a fine addition to their catalog, and one that is sure to satisfy their fan base and discerning listeners just discovering this terrific outfit.

"Let's Spend the Day Together" by A.M. (Electronic Artist from Ontario, Canada)

Billing its sound as "Electro-acoustic party music," A.M.'s latest CD, "Let's Spend the Day Together" is all that and more. Not to be confused with American singer-songwriter AM, this Toronto-based performer has assembled an album that is well crafted with electronic soundscapes, "found sounds", samples, and last but not least, sheer sonic invention, that is as intriguing as it is musically satisfying. Tying the project together are real-life samples provided by people from all over the world, intended to represent a "snapshot of a day in the life of humankind." It's a concept that unfolds with the ease and naturalness only an accomplished musician / DJ could pull off. Weaving these samples throughout the album, the result is a combustible mix of instrumentals variously built on both synthesizer and acoustic instrumentation, alternately lush and lyrical, primal and orchestral. Each tune is crafted with a keen eye towards melody and dynamics, and utilizes chord and aural changes that keep the proceedings both fresh and forward moving. While A.M.'s latest CD, "Let's Spend the Day Together" is, in fact, an album perfect for a party / club setting, there is so much going on here that only multiple listens will render full appreciation, and ultimately reveal the depth of compositions and the superb musicianship of the artist and his collaborators.

RadioIndy is pleased to present AURADRONE with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Whitelite Britelite"

Imagine if the members of The Cure decided to replace lead singer Robert Smith with a sexy female vocalist. If you can't, then perhaps listening to "Whitelite Britelite" by Auradrone will help you see the big picture. Hailing from Los Angeles, the band is fronted by the very talented Jon Mack. Her vocals are filled with tasty lyrics and sex appeal to the max. Just give a good listen to songs like "Auto Erotic" and "A Channel," and listeners will be able to hear her vocals at their best. The band is also very good and is great at changing the style of songs while still keeping that "Auradrone" sound throughout it all. "Indigo Child" is both classic 80's and super erotic at the same time, so be sure to give that track a few spins. "The Lyre Speaketh" by PAS (Post Abortion Stress) (Electronic Artist from New York City, New York(NY))

"The Lyre Speaketh," is a new experimental album by PAS (Post Abortion Stress) that's doused with sounds both familiar and bizarre. The track, "Otherworldly Magic in County Kirkahan" is driven by a fast paced sub-bass and hand percussion while metallic sheets are scratched as an ambient layering. "Chorus of Cats" is another song where you can feel its pulse, but the emphasis is on the soundscape of distorted elements reflecting in a cave or dungeon (as one may imagine). The appeal to this CD is not a hook or killer beat, but rather exposing yourself to unique sounds that create a new musical palette. There are moments of dissonance but before long, a shimmering light seeps through, revealing a charm behind the shadows. Expand your horizons by hearing "The Lyre Speaketh," where there are endless possibilities to the depths of music.

"Another Level" by Kishane (Electronic Artist from New Jersey (NJ))

Kishane's new album, "Another Level" is electronica done right. The CD is comprised of 7 tracks, each with a new and seductive marriage of soul, funk, and electronic elements. The opening song "Sweat" starts strong with an enticing house pulse that is immediately engaging. Although the four-on-the-floor rhythm makes a mark on the album, songs like "Way Out" establish Kishane's chill tone that lends a tasteful balance to the mix. The influences here are broad, yet the result is a seamless and smooth blend of both moods and flavor. For fans of funk, hip-hop, and R&B, this solid electronica album will deliver and delight.

RadioIndy is pleased to present GaGa Records with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Gaga in Da House"

RadioIndy is pleased to present GaGa Records with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Gaga in Da House"

Gaga Records produces the art of house music very well in their latest compilation "Gaga in Da House." This album features tracks from select artists which Gaga Records claims "They make the difference in house music." That bold statement rings true in songs like "Angel Eyes" a Viken Mardikian remix that features a smooth sax layered on top of a funky groove. In a bit of a twist from the norm, "Voodoo Essence" brings more of an African tribal vibe to the mix and is a welcome change. It is also a style not commonly found in the house genre and helps bring this disc to a different level. "Gaga in Da House" is a great listen and could very well be featured in any DJ's live club mix.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Greg Simon with a GrIndie Award for the CD "EthnikElectrika"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Greg Simon with a GrIndie Award for the CD "EthnikElectrika"

Who would have thought electronica and relaxing could be used in the same sentence? Well, it can when you pop in "EthnikElectrika" by Greg Simon. The talented musician does an outstanding job with his most recent album by fusing ethnic sounds with beats you would hear on any weekend in a club on Sunset Blvd. "La Bossa Love" features some magnificent melodic Spanish guitar work and sets the tone for the whole record. Branching away from the "Spanish" tones, Simon throws in some nicely played Indian ragas on the track "Joyfest." If you are someone who loves those classic "Buddha Bar" collections, than you will love hearing "EthnikElectrika."

RadioIndy is pleased to present Aina with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Little Escapades"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Aina with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Little Escapades"

Aina's latest release "Little Escapades" is composed of an alternative/pop/electronic, yet unique, sound. As a seasoned solo artist, Aina confidently expresses her vocal maturity with style and grace. Her vocal range is truly amazing as you can hear her silky voice gliding from the lower to upper register. On the title track "Little Escapades," her emotional, strong, and powerful vocals intensify the mood of the lyrics. Mysterious string sound effects enhance the delicate and mystifying vocals on "Sitting Knitting Stars" as the song has an eerie overtone to it. The overall production is well orchestrated as instrumental sounds are skillfully layered over the melodic vocals. "Little Escapades" is one album well worth hearing, especially if you like alternative/pop music featuring sleek female vocals.
